The Station Bar, Church Street, Eccles on Sunday was the place to be be for festive frolics as they held a Christmas Charity Party for local children and they and their parents turned up in their droves. Over 100 children tucked into a Christmas buffet and queued up to see Father Christmas who had flown in from the North Pole to ensure that the party went with a swing. Each child got a selection box and a Polaroid photograph of themselves chatting with Santa as they told him that they had been good and fully deserved a full sack of presents this Christmas.... no pressure there then! The adults weren't left out of the fun as they too, tucked into the food and drinks but more importantly purchased raffle tickets for, what has to be said some marvellous donated gifts, Manchester United shirts, food hampers, wine, chocolates, spirits and much more. The party was to raise funds to be split 50/50 between Christies Hospital and MacMillan Cancer Support and raised a staggering £2,375 this was the Quinn's family way of showing their gratitude for the life saving treatment their Father, Paul received this year...a magnificent gesture. Paul's daughter Josephine told me: "We are overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness and generosity, Eccles is a lovely town and still has a caring community and this really showed with our event yesterday" I leave the last word to Paul: "We are going to do it every year now and for the same two charities, it went fantastic such a lovely day and it was like a proper traditional English Christmas party" Events like this show just how much community spirit there still is Eccles with Paul Quinn and his family showing the way...a round of applause please!
