I am a big music fan and love most genres and so I was delighted to listen to this slab of vinyl, a three album set consisting of 36 self penned songs by Andy Sharrocks a Manchester musician with a faultless pedigree and musical background. How do I describe this album? I would say Country/Americana with dollops of slide guitar, wailing blues reminiscent of Robert Johnson or Blind Willie Johnson, add into the mix, driving rock and roll, a smidgen of Cajun and a dash of soul.. With a gravelly, leather lunged voice that is reminiscent of Tom Waits and Captain Beefheart on tracks such as, Old Leather Coat it all adds to the magic of this album. I was reminded of the early Rolling Stones album, Exile On Main Street when the slide guitars, fiddles and guitars kick in and that's no bad thing. Truly a romping, stomping, sprawling album with a massive nod to the superb musicians that Andy has roped in, Danny Bourassa, Phil Watts, Phil Cawsey and friends a true labour of love What is puzzling is me is why hasn't Andy been snapped up by one of the major labels? also I would love to see him play at venues such as The Blues Kitchen in Manchester or one of the many festivals in 2024..6 Music Festival or a Glastonbury slot on one of the Roots stages, he would go down a storm. So, as Andy says: "Sit back with or without intoxicants of your choice and let the music wash over you and penetrate your inner core" Couldn't have put it better myself. Andy I doff my oversized cap!
