OP VENTURE MAKE TWO ARRESTS DURING TARGETED PATROLS IN ECCLES

    SHARE |

Greater Manchester Police's Operation Venture team made two arrests in Eccles yesterday, Tuesday 16 April 2024, whilst on their patrols aimed at deterring and responding to knife related or violent crime.

The team conducted a vehicle stop after eagle-eyed, plain clothed officers witnessed some suspicious activity. Following a search of the vehicle, they seized a quantity of cannabis, cash, a phone, and a weapon. A woman, aged 65, was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon.

Following a subsequent house search, a 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. Suspected cocaine, as well as cannabis, several mobile phones and car keys were seized.

The pair remain in custody whilst enquiries continue.

Inspector Jon Ezard said, “These seizures not only mean suspected drugs have been removed from the streets, but also a weapon which had the capability to significantly injure someone if used.

“We are continuing to support local teams across the force area in a bid to reduce knife crime, and other related offences.

“If you know that someone in your local area is carrying a knife or weapon, I urge you to report it to us. Weapons do not protect you and are statistically more likely to be used on yourself. Help us get them off the streets.”

Reports can be made by calling police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. If you would prefer to remain anonymous, please report to independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
