An inspirational ‘Intergenerational Day’ brought together both ends of the age spectrum for a fantastic and fun afternoon bringing the young and older in the Irlam and Cadishead Community together. Irlam Primary School hosted the afternoon that was made possible with funding from the Rotary Club of Irlam, individual donations and the support of parents who provided a whole host of cakes and biscuits that went down a treat! As well as tucking into a delicious Afternoon Tea of sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, cakes, and biscuits all washed down with plenty of tea, coffee, and soft drinks. Guests were ‘waited’ on by year six students from the school and were delightfully entertained by various year groups and the school choir from the popular Irlam school with an array of singing and dancing that brought an emotional tear to some in the audience. Head Teacher Elaine Darwin said, “A brilliant afternoon thoroughly enjoyed by all our guests and students that helped or provided the entertainment. The whole idea of the event was to bring together both the young and the older members in our community and it went fantastically well.” Sheila Sedgwick (nee Jones) first became a pupil at Irlam Primary School in 1947, she added, “We had a really good time and it brought back memories being back at the old school.” As well as the Afternoon Tea, guests from various Irlam and Cadishead groups, sheltered housing schemes, homes and the wider community, played prize bingo, and took part in a fun quiz hosted by John Blackburn from the Salford Red Devils Foundation. Every guest also received a chocolate Easter Egg to take home. A magical way to bring the young and the older in the community together to celebrate Easter! Well done everyone involved!
