BUSBY BABES TROPHY TO BE PART OF A SALFORD FUNDRAISER

    SHARE |

We told you the story last week of the Eddie Colman/Geoff Bent Trophy which was paid for by the regulars of the Rose and Crown pub on Broad Street, Pendleton following the Munich Air Disaster of 1958 which claimed their lives.

It was played for by schools in Salford with boys aged 11 and over competing for it, with the inaugural winners being Broughton Secondary Modern in 1959 other winners included St Lawrences, Sacred Heart and carried on until 1997 when the winners were Joseph Eastham school.

With the closure of so many schools and amalgamations, Salford Schoolboys Football Association took the decision to present the trophy to the Manchester United Museum for both display and safe keeping and a new trophy was played for.

The trophy and it is a magnificent solid silver one is now back in the hands of Salford Schools Football Association and after a chat with Lol Duffy and John Peters it has been decided that the hallowed trophy can be shown in a local pub and you dear reader can have the chance to have your photo taken with it!

It doesn't end there..each person who has their photo taken with the trophy will also receive a Salford v St Helens 1989 ESFA cup final programme played at Old Trafford which was Ryan Giggs first Old Trafford appearance, this alone is a collectors piece.

The money raised will be split 50/50 between Salford Schools Football Association and, I must stress that the following was at their insistence that the other half to go to our Salford.Media foodbank appeal.

So if you wish to relive your youth, jumpers for goalposts etc and get your hands on a piece of football history then please join us at.

The Station Bar, Church Street, Eccles on Saturday 2nd March between 2pm and 5pm it is up to you how much you donate, no need to feel shy is all we ask and it's all for good causes in Salford.

    Right then see you there!
