A SNAPSHOT OF SALFORD'S PAST PERFECTLY PRESERVED, LARK HILL AT SALFORD MUSEUM & ART GALLERY - A 'MUST VISIT' FOR EVERYONE

    SHARE |

It has long been the dream of this young'ish whipper snapper to one day hang a Lowry on my wall, I have been searching for something to replace that bloody tacky jewel art Mona Lisa thing my sister insisted she gave me a few months back.

Well fear not art aficionados, you can own your very own Lowry (Print) thanks to Salford Museum & Art Gallery who are giving one away for absolutely *FREE with every purchase made in their shop, which in a strange coincidence also has a fair few copies of those books that Tony Flynn popped out back in the 80's, amongst many others.

There are lots of things to do on a visit, from visiting the long lost street scenes of Lark Hill to soaking up some arts and culture thanks the museums extensive collections and wonderful ever changing exhibitions, you can even do a little research in the vast collection held within the draws and cabinets at the Local History Library.

Lark Hill has amazingly captured a snapshot of Old Salford and has to be on everybody's bucket list. My personal favourites are the Pub (Obviously) as they looked like that the last time Tony Flynn ever paid for his own pint, also the wonderful the sweet shop which has jars filled with old classic teeth dissolvers which you can no longer buy. Fantastic memories of a time long since past.

Lark Hill Place was originally created in 1957 when many shops and houses in central Salford were being demolished to make way for new developments. Many of the shop fronts that are in Lark Hill Place today were saved and restored. The interiors have been furnished and are full of authentic objects, recreating the way they were used in Victorian times.

But the best bit has to be the wonderfully funny staff at the Café who can even tempt a diabetic like me with the best cuppa in Salford and an amazing lemon drizzle or chocolate cake. They never fail to bring a smile to our faces.
