As part of the BBC’s commitment to serving the whole of the UK, an extended hour-long edition of the BBC News at One will relocate to Salford's MediaCityUK, creating a daytime TV powerhouse in the city. This will be the first time a daily BBC national news bulletin will be broadcast outside London. There will be even more news content broadcast from Salford as BBC Breakfast will be extended for an extra 15 minutes daily. The news comes along with plans revealed for Newsnight to become a 30-minute programme with more than half of Newsnight’s 60 jobs will to be cut. BBC’s Director of News Programmes, John McAndrew said: “The BBC does more than any other broadcaster to reflect the whole UK, and expanding our national news hub in Salford to deliver the UK’s first daily news bulletin from outside of London is an important step to ensure we are delivering for audiences across the UK. We are committed to providing impartial news and information and I’m delighted to announce this investment in BBC News, which ensures we are closer to more communities and delivering more high-quality news to our UK audiences.”
