BLACKPOOL TOWER BLAZE TURNS OUT TO BE ORANGE NETTING BLOWING IN THE WIND

    SHARE |

Firefighters from Lancashire descended on Blackpool Tower this afternoon (28th Dec) following reports of a  fire which had broken out.

What at first appeared to be flames were spotted close to the viewing platform at the top of the structure above the iconic ballroom of the historic Lancashire seaside landmark.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) despatched six fire engines to the scene, while Lancashire Police have cordoned off surrounding streets in the vicinity.

People working within the tower were evacuated.

However, it seems that it was all a false alarm as it was determined that the fire was just an optical illusion caused by orange netting blowing in the wind.

The emergency response was stepped down and roads were quickly reopened.

Police confirmed that one man has been arrested on suspicion of Breach of the Peace and is being transported to custody, but have given no further details on the incident.
