Yesterday night (Wednesday 7 February 2024) just after 10pm, Greater Manchester Police authorised a section 60 authority in Newtown area of Swinton. The section 60 powers come under the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, and will run 24 hours, it began at 11.10pm yesterday evening (Wednesday 7 February 2024) and will end at 11.10pm on Thursday 8 February 2024. The section 60 authority grants officers extended powers to stop and search individuals within the area, this has been introduced following reports of a disturbance in the area on Wednesday 7 February 2024. It is believed that a group containing males and female of males wearing black clothing and face coverings on E-Bikes were fighting with weapons on Cromwell Road in Swinton. No injuries have been reported to police. Specialist officers including officers from GMP’s Tactical Aid Unit were in attendance alongside neighbourhood police officers. Detective Chief Inspector Gareth Humphreys, of GMP’s Salford District, said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we try and establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident. “If anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries, please do come forward. “Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars.
