This new initiative by Salford arts organisations Short Supply, Islington Mill and Mirage Bar is bringing a new kind of live event for artists and locals alike. Event on 30th May 2024 at Mirage Bar, 1 James Street, Salford, M3 5HW Tickets available here: https://skiddle.com/e/38255923 ‘ You bring the weird and wonderful, we'll bring the people’ reads the tagline. You’ll be introduced to “a very depressed chef who becomes a tomato and regains his confidence and sexual libido” reads one of the performances. That’s certainly something to chat about at the office the next day. Launched by local artist-led organisation Short Supply, who are well known regionally and nationally across the UK for their practical advice and playful energy – artist development and grins guaranteed! – and set to be presented as a monthly showcase, Scratch is an event committed to the weird and wonderful, for local artists who often get left behind. Hosted at Salford’s iconic artistic space Islington Mill, populated by artists, drag queens and musicians, this event will surely fit in within the mill’s historic walls. “Live art doesn’t get the spotlight it deserves in the region, in our view” Director of Short Supply and artist in their own right Mollie Balshaw explains “Manchester and Salford are known for world-class musicians, but there’s little support for those whose work crosses multiple sectors. We know that cross-sector collaboration creates a better audience experience and enriches the sector as a whole, so we thought why not create something that encourages that”. The artists presenting work are Amina B, Rachel Barry and TRIP, with their work spanning live painting, clowning, DJing, keyboard, drumming and spoken word, this will be a night of audio visual delights with drinks and a social afterwards.
