SALFORD FACE OFF WITH PETERBOROUGH UNITED AT THE PENINSULA TONIGHT FOR AN EMIRATES FA CUP FIRST ROUND REPLAY

    SHARE |

Salford City are to face off against Peterborough United on the pitch once more this evening (Tues 14th Nov) in a Emirates FA Cup First Round replay, having drawn 2-2 against the POSH at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

A stoppage time equaliser headed in by Emmanuel Fernandez forced another game to decide who will host either Doncaster Rovers or Accrington Stanley in the Second Round at the start of December.

Stevie Mallan had given the Ammies an early lead before Ricky-Jade Jones equalised early in the second half at The Weston Homes Community Stadium.

A goalkeeping error from Nicholas Bilokapic then restored Salford’s advantage at the League One high-flyers, but they pulled level again in stoppage time when Fernandez headed in Ephron Mason-Clark’s cross.

While it was a gut-wrenching conclusion for Salford 10 days ago, midfielder Ryan Watson believes his side can take confidence from that game, and Saturday’s performance, to try and reach the Second Round.

    He, said:

“It’s a special occasion and all the boys want to win.

“We were disappointed after the first game, I think we should have won the game. Looking back I think all the boys came off the

pitch disappointed so on Tuesday I think we’ve got to try and re-create the performance that we had there and hopefully we’ll have enough to go through.

“We’ll have to be on our game, I thought we played well on Saturday and if we play like we did then I think we can get a positive result and get through. I think we’ve shown that we can match them as we did in the first game so I don’t think we need to go into the game fearful or anything like that.

“I don’t think we look at any team thinking we can’t beat them, especially in our league or the league above. We should have beaten them in the first game so we can go into the game on Tuesday confident and I don’t see what we can’t win.”

Since the original tie the Ammies have only had Saturday’s game, a narrow defeat at home to unbeaten Mansfield Town, while Posh have had two league games. A defeat away at Wigan Athletic seven days ago was followed by a Cambridgeshire derby against Cambridge United that Darren Ferguson’s side convincingly won 5-0.

Meanwhile, Declan John is ineligible to play due to a condition of his loan agreement, while Adrian Mariappa and Liam Shephard will be assessed.
