The Salford Sports Partnership, finals of the Salford Primary Schools ‘Tag Rugby’ Tournament were held recently at the Salford Community Stadium. Six schools from across Salford - The Deans, St Mary's RC Swinton, Fiddlers Lane, St Luke's CE, Light Oaks and St Mary's RC, Eccles, all winners of their school cluster groups took to the field in a round-robin tournament of fast action tag rugby thoroughly enjoyed by all those that took part. Ceremonial Mayor of Salford Cllr Gina Reynolds gave an inspirational speech to the teams before the action began and took the opportunity to talk to players, coaches and teachers about rugby and sport in Salford Schools. Fiddlers Lane Primary School from Irlam were the eventual winners and were delighted to receive their medals and the winner’s trophy from Salford Red Devils Fullback Ryan Brierley who took time out to pose for pictures with all the teams and speak to the players about their rugby ambitions. St. Marys RC Primary School in Swinton were runners up with St. Marys RC Primary School in Eccles taking the bronze medals. Event organiser Dean Gilmore from the Salford Sports Partnership that enables and encourages all Salford Schools to take part in a fantastic range of sports and activities for all said, “A great day of tag rugby at the Salford Community Stadium. Well done to all the teams that reached the finals and a big thank you to the Salford Red Devils Foundation, the referees, Mayor Cllr. Gina Reynolds and Cllr. Tim Youd and of course Salford Red Devil Ryan Brierley and all the young rugby players for all their support.”
