AMMIES MIDFIELDER NMAI - "I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER GAME"

    SHARE |

Kelly Nmai etched his name into Salford City’s history books by becoming the first academy player to score a goal for the men’s team.

The 19-year-old had an effort against Newport credited as an own goal, but there was no doubting the second at Sutton was his on Tuesday night.

Having set up a chance for Matt Smith, the striker recovered to cross a ball back across goal to Nmai on the left, who thumped home from a tight angle.

He left the field in added time to the chorus of “Kelly Nmai, he’s one of our own”, and had a beaming smile as he reflected on a special evening.

“It’s been a while, I got robbed last game but I’m glad, finally scoring.

“[It was] A great finish into the roof of the net, I couldn’t have asked for a better game.

“[Settling in has been] Quite easy because of the players, they’ve made it a lot easier to come into the team, especially Elliot Watt who’s been keeping me going.

“It was great hearing it, I heard it during the game as well, it’s a good feeling, very good feeling.”
