GMP Appeal for Witnesses After Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Salford

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) are urgently appealing for information following a fatal motorcycle crash on Albion Way, Salford, which occurred at approximately 6:10 pm on 22 June 2024. The tragic incident happened between Liverpool Street and Salford Crescent.

The collision involved a green Kawasaki motorcycle traveling in tandem with another motorcycle towards Salford Crescent. The Kawasaki reportedly collided with the central reservation, leading to severe injuries for the rider. Despite the rapid response and best efforts of emergency services, a 60-year-old man sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning as the investigation continues.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and gratitude to those who provided assistance at the scene. He emphasized the ongoing nature of the investigation and the need for public assistance.

Sgt. Waggett, said:

“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who tragically lost his life in this collision. We also thank those who stopped to help and provide care to the victim.

“The investigation is in its very early stages, and while we work to understand the exact cause of the collision, we ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of the motorcycles in the area to come forward and assist us.”
