A newly proposed three-storey healthcare building with a rooftop terrace is set to play a pivotal role in the ambitious £2.5 billion Salford Crescent Masterplan, unveiled earlier this year.

The University of Salford, in collaboration with architect AHR, alongside Avison Young and Kier Construction, has put forward plans for this innovative project. Scheduled for review by Salford Council’s planning committee on June 20, the project has received a recommendation for approval.

Positioned south of the current Mary Seacole building, which currently serves as a university car park, the new development aims to provide a 60,000 sq ft learning facility tailored for students pursuing careers in community healthcare services. Notably, the building is designed to be completely powered by electricity, sourced primarily from the grid with additional support from solar PV panels. This commitment underscores its dedication to sustainability and reducing carbon footprint.

Key features of the proposed facility include specialized clinical spaces for podiatry, prosthetics, orthotics, sports rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and gait analysis. It will also feature a clinic, treatment rooms, a gym, teaching spaces, staff and student amenities, a café, and an accessible rooftop terrace.

Looking ahead, the university plans to integrate community healthcare clinics into the building, enhancing partnerships and research opportunities. Access to the site will be facilitated from Statham Street, with provisions made for 18 car parking spaces and two motorcycle bays.

The project team includes BDP, Hann Tucker Associates, OOBE, Eckersley O’Callaghan, and Curtins, highlighting a collaborative effort in design and construction.
