It’s game on as Manchester City and Manchester United teams prepare to battle it out in the 2024 UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival!
Set against the iconic backdrop of Media City and Salford Quays, Manchester City in the Community and Manchester Foundation Red Devils will go head-to-head in a thrilling dragon boat race. It’s the ultimate derby on water.
The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is hosted by the Xinhua Chinese Association and supported by local councils, communities, and the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester. It has been a standout event in Salford since its debut in June 2012. This year marks the 10th Dragon Boat Festival and coincides with the Year of the Dragon, taking place on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 June.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said:
“We’re thrilled that the Dragon Boat Festival is on our waters at Salford Quays once again. A big thank you goes to our Chinese community in Greater Manchester for putting this spectacle on. It is one of the highlights of the annual calendar of events in Salford and fantastic opportunity for people to head down and watch the exciting races take place. Best of luck to all the contestants taking part.”
In addition to the race, the festival offers a range of activities for all ages, including dragon and lion dances, Chinese and English musical performances, Chinese folk dances, captivating, Tai Chi and Kung Fu experiences, and fun crafts for kids.
