The Ammies have confirmed the departure of Stoke born centre-back Theo Vassell following the expiry of his contract. Vassell joined the club at the start of the 2021-22 season and made 115 appearances for the Ammies.

Vassell quickly became a key player in Salford’s defense, known for his consistent performances and leadership on the pitch. Over three seasons, his defensive skills and tactical awareness helped the team secure several important victories and clean sheets.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Vassell made 24 starts and three substitute appearances under Gary Bowyer. In May 2022, he signed a new two-year contract, expressing his contentment at the club. He played in 56 of Salford’s 57 games in the 2022-23 campaign, including two appearances in the play-off semi-final defeat to Stockport County.

Vassell scored his first goal of the 2023-24 season in a 3-1 win at Wrexham on February 3 after recovering from an injury. However, he was sent off 21 days later in a 5-1 defeat at Mansfield Town and again on April 6 in a 1-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon, after reportedly telling the referee, “that was an effing disgrace,” according to the clubs manager Karl Robinson.

The club expressed their gratitude for his contributions and wished him well for the future.

A spokesperson for the club, stated:

“Theo has been a fantastic player for us. We thank him for his dedication and wish him nothing but success in his future.”
