The new announcement comes after poppies were painted on the road last year at Swinton Cenotaph to mark Remembrance Sunday. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the council asked people to stay at home and the annual service was streamed live on the internet. But since then members of the public have said they would like poppies painted at their local memorial, so the council has worked to make that possible. Approval has now been given to have poppies painted at Eccles War Memorial, Clifton War Memorial, Prince’s Park War Memorial, Chapel Street Cenotaph, Bolton Road and Agecroft Road Monument, Albion Place War Memorial, Parr Fold Park War Memorial, St Paul’s War Memorial and St Mary’s Church War Memorial.
