As yet it is unclear as to how the blaze started and investigations continue at the scene.

It may have take a lot of hard work to get a result but finally Husnain Ali of Rishton Lane in Bolton was jailed after he entered a guilty plea to possession of heroin and crack cocaine with intent to supply, obstructing police and driving with no insurance and was sentenced to three years imprisonment at court. The arresting officer PC Upton was given praise by both his colleagues and the public for his hard work on the long investigation which lead to Ali finally being jailed. 8. Police have made an arrest this afternoon after increasing patrols in the area due to reports of anti-social behaviour on the Linnyshaw Loop Line. A 27-year-old male from Wicheaver Crescent in Little Hulton was arrested after a member of the public alerted police after spotting a man who was firing an air weapon close to their location. Two PCSO's responded and were able to locate the man as he was bagging the weapon and attempting to walk away, however he refused to engage with them and so with concerns for his welfare and that of the wider public the officers followed the man who then became abusive and threatening towards them. At which point they requested support from their Neighbourhood Beat Officer colleagues. The man was later detained and arrested for a public order offence. All officers are said to have been safe and suffered no injuries during the pursuit and arrest. The individual remains in police custody for questioning. Police are urging anyone who witnesses such behaviour on the Loop Line to report any incidents or suspicious activity to them via 101 or their website and its Live Chat service. You are also able to report anonymous via Crimestoppers.
  9. Update: At around 6:06am a second power outage occurred. If you are waking up due to a missed early morning wakeup alarm, then it should be known that a brief overnight power disruption across some parts of Salford left house alarms ringing and circuit breakers tripped. The later being especially unfortunate if they happen to be the ones which control power to your fridge/freezer as was the case in my home. I would urge you to check that your fridges and freezers are powered as soon as you awake this morning so as to avoid food spoiling. Flickering lights and reset electrical devices were reported by people across a range of areas including Walkden, Little Hulton, Swinton and Eccles. It is unclear as to what caused the brief outage but this is just the latest in a number of similar instances to occur over a period of the last few months. In late January 79 properties were left without power and in the previous December, 90 homes were left in the dark for hours after disruptions to their supplies, to name a few.. Residents across Salford have reported power fluctuations and unstable supply for several months on our community Facebook Group - SalfordOnline. We have contacted Electricity Northwest for comment.
  10. Plans for a solar farm in Little Hulton and a hydro scheme at Charlestown Weir, Salford have taken another step forward. City Mayor Paul Dennett has formally agreed to a partnering agreement with Energy Systems Catapult, a not-for-profit centre of excellence that aims to help the council make the most of the clean growth opportunities. This decision means the council will be able to access expert advice and guidance as well as European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) grants to address the gap in funding. The plan is to build a 3.79 hectare solar farm with 5,094 solar panels at Kenyon Way, Little Hulton which should generate the equivalent of enough power for 438 homes a year. Work to build the state-of-the-art farm will take approximately five months and contractors are expected to start on site in 2021. Planning permission was approved for the site in June 2020. A hydroelectric scheme, which will be built on the River Irwell at Charlestown Weir, off Riverside Drive, will generate the equivalent of enough electricity to power about 200 homes. Power will be generated by an Archimedes screw and the scheme will incorporate passes to allow fish and eels to swim further up the river. The scheme will be built during the summer of 2022 and should be fully operational by the end of that year. Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: These developments come after a long line of green achievements for Salford City Council which have won national recognition. Over the past 10 years, the council has invested £126 million in green space creating new country parks and walking and cycle pathways across the city, as well as planting thousands of trees and investing in huge environmental infrastructure projects like the Castle Irwell flood basin. Friends of the Earth has named Salford the most sustainable council in the north west, while the Centre for Thriving Places named the council the greenest and most sustainable in England and Wales. Mayor Dennett added:

  12. The Top Club on Manchester Road West in Little Hulton has promptly closed it's doors this evening (Wednesday 6th September) after it was revealed that there had been a reported case of Coronavirus. The club has declined to say at this time as to if it was a customer or a member of staff which had tested positive for the virus. After consultation with Salford Council, a spokesperson from the club has advised all those who have been on the premises between Sunday 30th August and Tuesday 1st September to get tested if they start to develop symptoms. The club will be closed until further notice. Symptoms include: A high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature) A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual) A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste The club has disclosed that Track and Trace is in place but has declined to comment further on the situation. Salford has seen a rise in cases reported over the past week or so, but it should be noted that as yet there has been no clear sign of a rise in the death rate. Although it is always wise to monitor the situation on a day by day basis. Situations like this are inevitable even with the most stringent of measures in place. Photo: Google
