  1. Three people escaped with their lives after a fire raged through a semi-detached home in Walkden late on Monday (13th Aug). The blaze is thought to have started at around 11am on the first floor of the Lakeside Avenue home, which led to one man having to jump from a first floor window to escape, breaking his ankle in doing so. Surrounding homes were checked to ensure the fire had not spread to them and two of the three casualties were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
