With the future relaxation of the rules on social distancing and lockdown, voters will finally get a chance to cast their ballots in the 2021 local elections planed for the 6th of May. Due to the redrawing of ward boundaries, ALL 60 council seats in Salford will be up for grabs this year, along with the position for Salford City Mayor and that of the Greater Manchester Metro Mayor. If you are not already registered to vote you will need to do so in order to take part and have your say in local democracy. The deadline to register to vote in the elections on 6 May 2021 is midnight on Monday 19 April and if you are not registered then you will not be able to take part. Who can vote? Anyone who is aged over 16 can register but you can only vote once you become aged 18 or over. You must also be: a British citizen an Irish or EU citizen living in the UK. a Commonwealth citizen who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need permission. It takes around 5 minutes to register online via https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and you will need to provide some information to verify your eligibility. Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, some may wish to take advantage of postal voting. How to set up postal voting: You can request a postal vote by following this link: https://www.salford.gov.uk/your-council/elections-and-voting/elections/future-elections/local-salford-city-mayor-and-gm-mayor-elections-6-may-2021/ You will be required to input some information to verify your eligibility. The deadline to apply for a postal vote for the elections on 6 May 2021 is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April.
