  1. The two men will appear in court tomorrow (1 September) charged with a number of offences including both supplying drugs and money laundering. Dylan Whitehead (DoB 18/11/1996) of Regent Square, Salford, has been charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and heroin, and money laundering. Joseph Minas (DoB 15/08/2001) of Verdun Road, Eccles, has been charged with possession with intent to supply a psychoactive substance, obstructing a police officer, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and money laundering. They have been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 1 September. Both men were arrested on Eccles Old Road on Monday 30 August by officers from GMP's Transport Unit working in conjunction with officers from Operation Naseby. Operation Naseby is a dedicated GMP operation tackling organised crime in Salford.
  2. A stretch of Eccles Old Road close to the entrance of Buile Hill Park between Chaseley Road and Castleway has reopened this morning after what is being described as a 'Police Incident' having happened in the early hours of this morning (Monday 19th June). Motorists were advised to seek an alternative route around the area at the time but the road has since fully reopened. As yet the nature of the incident has not been disclosed.
  3. Update: Police have now scaled back the operation and have lifted the cordon after the items have been deemed to be safe. Police are saying that there is no evidence of any explosive material and that the devices were part of what is thought to be a firework. The arrest is unrelated to the incident. An army bomb disposal team is currently attending an ongoing incident focused upon a grey coloured SEAT Leon vehicle which was stopped by police on Park Place in Salford this evening (28th Feb). An area has been cordoned off and there is reportedly a large police presence on the residential street close to Salford Royal Hospital. Officers say that they stopped a vehicle just before 3.40pm in Park Place in Salford and arrested a man. Following a search of the vehicle, two suspicious items were found and a cordon has been put in place as a precaution. A bomb disposal unit is attending the scene to determine of the devices are viable using a remotely controlled robot for safety. An ambulance from NWAS is on standby at the scene should it be needed. Nearby residents in the surrounding homes have been evacuated as a precaution and officers remain at the scene. An 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He remains in custody at this time.
  4. Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are asking for the publics feedback on proposals for planned improvements to existing cycle lanes on Eccles Old Road. They say that the route will provide improvements of the links to Salford Royal Hospital and Salford University as well as employment opportunities in the town of Eccles and at MediaCityUK / Salford Quays. Whilst at the same time making cycling safer and easier around the area. They hope this will be achieved through the provision of light segregation to existing advisory cycle lanes. They would like public feed back on the following: Install light segregation features (reflective bollards and delineators) onto the existing advisory cycle lanes on Eccles Old Road. There will be no impact on traffic capacity. The proposed light segregation will look similar to what has recently installed on Liverpool Street and Oldfield Road, see image below. The cycle lanes on Eccles Old Road to be mandatory except where there is existing on-street parking provision.
