  1. Earlier this morning a large emergency service response descended on Clifton Country Park after reports of a possible body having been seen in the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park. Shortly after 10.45am on Sunday 14 March 2021, police were called to reports from a concerned member of the public that a possible body had been found in the River Irwell in Clifton Country Park in Salford. Emergency services were quickly on scene and part of the park has been cordoned off to the public. Unfortunately we have the sad duty to report that the body of a male thought to be aged in his 50's has been been recovered from the River. An incident unit from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services (GMFRS) was seen parked at the entrance of the park this morning as responders made their way to the location where the body was reportedly seen. Underwater Search teams were deployed to the area whereupon they located the body of the man in the water. Emergency services are currently in attendance and police say that enquiries are ongoing. We will continue to update this article when we have further details. Photos: Simon Williams via Facebook
  2. Eight parks and cemeteries in Salford are now officially among the best in the country. Agecroft Cemetery has been awarded Green Flag status, joining Blackleach Country Park, Boothsbank Park, Clifton Country Park, Peel Park (Salford), Victoria Park, Winton Park and Peel Green Cemetery, which have kept their Green Flag status for another year. The national award is given to the top parks, cemeteries, community gardens and other green spaces in the country and the Salford eight are among more than 2,000 around the country to receive or retain the award this year. Judges rate the areas on being welcoming, clean, healthy, safe and secure and how well they involve the local community. Salford Civic Centre was lit green last night (Wednesday October 14) along with MediaCityUK, the White Cliffs of Dover and the London Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to say a massive thank you to parks staff, volunteers and the judges who visit and assess sites for all their hard work. Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said it was a fantastic achievement, he said: The Green Flag scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, under licence from the government.
  3. A young couple were out for an early evening bike ride on Sunday 5th August, when at around 5:50 pm they were approached by two suspects brandishing knives, demanding they hand over their bike. During the incident the male victim received a stab wound to the groin area. It is believed that the injury is of a non-serious nature but things could have very easily turned out much worse. Police were called to the scene at around 6:00 pm and the scene around the 'Look Out Sculpture' was cordoned of so a forensics search could take place. The two suspects made off with the 'GT Verb Bike' pictured above, so if anyone is offered one like it then please contact GMP on 101 log number 1813/Aug 5th. People are being warned to remain vigilant when out and about in local parks. .map-responsive{ overflow:hidden; padding-bottom:32.4%; position:relative; height:0; border: 2px solid #fff; background: #262e33; border-radius: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .map-responsive{ overflow:hidden; padding-bottom:32.4%; position:relative; height:0; border: 2px solid #fff; background: #262e33; border-radius: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .map-responsive{ overflow:hidden; padding-bottom:32.4%; position:relative; height:0; border: 2px solid #fff; background: #262e33; border-radius: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .map-responsive{ overflow:hidden; padding-bottom:32.4%; position:relative; height:0; border: 2px solid #fff; background: #262e33; border-radius: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .map-responsive{ overflow:hidden; padding-bottom:32.4%; position:relative; height:0; border: 2px solid #fff; background: #262e33; border-radius: 2px 2px 2px 2px; }
