Police are appealing for the public’s help to trace family of man from the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester. Ian Howarth, aged 61, passed away at his home on Kirkwood Drive on Wednesday 14 October 2020. There are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. Anyone with information about Ian's next of kin should contact the Police Coroner’s Office in Manchester on 0161 856 2334.
A long-running GMP operation – codenamed Haemus – was first launched in 2019 following a number of firearms incidents across the Cheetham Hill area of Manchester. Officers investigating the incidents believe the incidents sparked from an ongoing dispute between two local crime groups from Cheetham Hill. Following three more recent firearms incidents – one on Sunday 6 September 2020 on Murray Street, a second on Saturday 12 September on Heath Street and another, more serious incident yesterday evening (Tuesday 15 September 2020) in Salford - police have widened the scope of Op Haemus.
A 27-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot several times by hitmen on Manton Close in Higher Broughton last night. The incident happened at around 11pm and is thought to be part of an ongoing turf war between two rival gangs over the supply of drugs in the area as well as other grievances. There was gunshot damage to a taxi but the owner is not said to be the target and the vehicle just happened to be in the direction that shots were fired. Several roads were closed with police cordons in the area and there remains a large police presence at the scene, additiona
