Carousel of Us - Coming To Swinton Square

Swinton Square is gearing up to host an immersive theatre event, “Carousel of Us,” from July 4-6, 2024. This unique production, spearheaded by creators Lowri Evans and Renato Bolelli Rebouças and produced by From the Other, will transform the shopping precinct into a dynamic stage that narrates the history and future of Swinton.

Set across various locations within Swinton Square, the event will incorporate interactive scenes in everyday places like shops and cafes, bringing the local history to life. The narrative will span from the 1970s to the future, providing a rich tapestry of stories that highlight Swinton’s evolution over the decades.

Evans expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing its community-centric approach, he said:

“This project is all about community. We’re celebrating the rich heritage of Swinton and the people who make it what it is,” she said. The event aims to engage the local community deeply, featuring performances by local choirs, dance classes, and other community groups.

John Searle, Strategic Director at Salford City Council, praised the initiative for its innovative use of public spaces, he commented:

“Events like ‘Carousel of Us’ transform community spaces and bring a vibrancy that benefits everyone. It’s wonderful to see our local heritage brought to life in such an innovative way.”

The performances are scheduled for various times over the three days, with shows on Thursday and Friday at 5 pm and 7 pm, and on Saturday at 3 pm and 5 pm. The event is free, with tickets available online or at Arts Let Loose. The production is designed to be accessible to all, with wheelchair access and on-site toilets available.
