Scheduled to open its doors in early 2025, Salford Youth Zone (SYZ), a leisure activity centre for young people in Salford, will create up to 70 full-time and part-time jobs within the city.

The facility is being developed by EMPOWER, the umbrella charity which oversees the operations of HideOut Youth Zone in East Manchester.

EMPOWER is set to become the largest employer of youth workers in Greater Manchester within the charity sector. Once SYZ launches, its two sites will employ 140 workers and involve over 100 volunteers. It is recruiting for a range of roles, across senior leadership, youth work, catering and finance – providing a unique opportunity for individuals to make their mark on the local community.

The new 4,500 sq ft site, situated adjacent to Belvedere Road and Broadwalk in Pendleton, will have the capacity to accommodate over 150 young people per night.

Following on from the success of HideOut Youth Zone in Gorton, SYZ will offer an abundance of activities and opportunities to thousands of young people, including health and wellbeing support, outdoor education, a climbing wall, music studio, multimedia suite and sports hall.

The facility will be open seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year for those aged 8-19, and up to 25 with additional needs.

Adam Farricker, CEO of Empower Youth Zone, said: “After the success of HideOut Youth Zone in Manchester we knew Salford would be a perfect next step in our journey of supporting young people. As the third most deprived local authority in Greater Manchester, we will give young people in the city the tools they need to discover their passions and reach their full potential.

“Young people across Salford have high aspirations and endless potential, but often don’t have the equal opportunities to realise their full potential – that is what we are looking to address with Salford Youth Zone. This is a space created alongside Salfordians, for their community and it will bring young people a safe and inspiring space to build happy, healthy and successful futures.”

Joe Amos, Head of Youth Work and Partnerships at Empower Youth Zone, said: “Supporting young people is at the centre of everything we do, so we’re proud to be extending our efforts to Salford. We looking to build a team of talented youth workers who are equipped to support the next generation and make their mark on the local community.

“As our vision comes to life in 2025, the new space will be an important development in the city and a great opportunity to work alongside others who are passionate about creating new opportunities and experiences for young people.”

City Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, said: “The new job opportunities at Salford Youth Zone are a fantastic way for local people to join this exciting journey in providing the next generation of Salfordians a place to thrive. I would encourage local people to find out more about both Salford Youth Zone and the positions that are available.

“Those successful applicants will be part of a dedicated team who are committed to providing a safe and supporting space for our youth, as part of our wider commitment to making Salford a child friendly city, and the experience you can get from working here will be invaluable.”
