Loghan Lewis has been named the Salford Red Devils‘ Player of the Month for July. The Australian has made a significant impact since joining the team from Canberra Raiders, joining the likes of Marc Sneyd, Nene Macdonald, and Deon Cross as recipients of this award in 2024. Lewis faced stiff competition from teammates Joe Mellor, Ethan Ryan, and Shane Wright but clinched the award thanks to his outstanding performances.
Despite missing the game against Huddersfield Giants due to a Head Injury Assessment (HIA) after a match in Perpignan against Catalans Dragons, Lewis’s contributions have been notable. In the victory against Hull FC, he made 114 meters and 21 tackles in just 50 minutes. On his return against Castleford Tigers in Round 19, he added another 19 tackles and 92 meters.
Reflecting on the award, Lewis said:
“I would like to thank everyone that has voted for me. I have absolutely loved my first few months at the club; the welcome from the fans, coaches, and the players has been unreal and is the reason why I am enjoying my footy so much at the moment. I’m excited to see what we can do as a team for the rest of the season!”
In other news, Chris Hankinson has secured the Try of the Month award for his effort against Castleford Tigers in Round 19, making it two in a row for him. During this crucial match, Hankinson stepped in for the injured Sam Stone in the back row and maintained his high performance standards. The try, described as “Vintage Reds under Paul Rowley,” began from inside their own half with Marc Sneyd initiating the play. Ryan Brierley then spotted a gap in the Tigers’ line, passing to Tim Lafai, who charged downfield and offloaded to Hankinson, sending him through to score in front of the jubilant Salford fans.
July has been a month of memorable victories for the Red Devils, with standout performances from players like Lewis and Hankinson. Their individual brilliance, combined with the strong efforts of their teammates, has kept the team’s momentum high. With the season progressing, the team is optimistic about what lies ahead and eager to continue their successful run.
