As the countdown to July 1st ticks down, excitement and anticipation are reaching fever pitch for the MS Therapy Centre NW‘s ambitious virtual fundraiser.

At 12 noon next Monday, the Centre’s dedicated team will embark on an extraordinary virtual journey around the world, aiming to cover 26,000 miles in just 80 days. Passports at the ready, the event promises to be a remarkable display of community spirit and determination.

In the past week alone, support for the event has surged, with donations pouring into the Just Giving Page. To date, the fundraiser has amassed an incredible £6,000, including online contributions, offline donations, and Gift Aid. This impressive total is a testament to the generosity and enthusiasm of supporters, even before the first virtual mile has been logged. The MS Therapy Centre NW extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed.

The event has drawn participants from far and wide. A team of 173 people, primarily based in the North West, is gearing up for the challenge. But this is truly a global effort, with teammates from across the UK, France, Spain, the USA, South Africa, and Australia all joining in. The sense of unity and shared purpose is palpable.

The centre is located at 6 Eliza Ann Street, Eccles, M300GL

The official start of the event will be marked at 12 noon on Monday, July 1st. To celebrate this milestone, the Centre will open its doors from 10 am, offering tea and coffee to those who can attend in person. For participants in the Greater Manchester area, it’s a wonderful opportunity to come together and share in the excitement. As the clock strikes midday, a bell will sound, signaling the beginning of the 80-day virtual challenge.

For those unable to be there in person, rest assured that you’ll be in the hearts of all as the virtual journey begins. This inclusive spirit ensures that everyone, regardless of location, feels connected and motivated.

As the MS Therapy Centre NW prepares to embark on this monumental virtual journey, they encourage everyone to continue sharing the challenge and spreading the word. Supporters can follow and contribute to the fundraiser at www.justgiving.com/page/ms-around-the-world. Every virtual mile logged and every donation brings the Centre closer to its goal and helps make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by MS.

The journey ahead is long, but with such a passionate and generous community behind them, the MS Therapy Centre NW is ready to take on the world. Thank you for your incredible support, and let’s make this virtual journey unforgettable!

Salford Media will be keeping track of the progress and reporting on how things are going.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system, particularly the brain and spinal cord. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers, leading to inflammation and damage. This disruption in the communication between the brain and other parts of the body can result in a wide range of symptoms, including fatigue, difficulty walking, numbness or weakness in limbs, vision problems, and cognitive changes. The severity and progression of these symptoms vary from person to person.

Barometric oxygen therapy, also known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT), has shown promise as a supportive treatment for MS. During HBOT, patients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, significantly increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood. This heightened oxygen level can help reduce inflammation, promote healing of damaged tissues, and improve overall cell function. For individuals with MS, HBOT may alleviate some symptoms, enhance energy levels, and improve quality of life by supporting the body’s natural healing processes.

While HBOT is not a cure for MS, its potential benefits make it a valuable complementary therapy for managing the condition and improving the well-being of those affected.
