Salford History Festival 2024: Another Roaring Success

We paid a visit to Salford Civic Centre over the weekend to attend the Salford History Festival 2024, which had relocated a little further along Chorley Road from the former venue at Fletchers Hall in Swinton. This year the festival was being hosted by Salford City Council who had opened the doors of the Civic to the public for the event.

As always there was a wonderful selection of stalls selling all manor of wares pertaining to the city’s rich local history and many talks by local historians, lapped up by eager audiences.

Our very own Tony Flynn was in attendance to give a talk about his early years as a ragged child growing up in what became to be known as Hanky Park. Tony presented a slide show alongside his talk which was held within the council chamber.

The show was opened by local councillor Heather Fletcher with local author, Theresa Taylor Emberton taking home the coveted Frank Mullineux award for her amazing work in bringing the stories to life of some of those interred within the hallowed ground of St Thomas’s (Pengy Church) in Pendleton.

We have to once more give a personal thanks to the organisers Paul Kelly and John Catterall, as once again they knocked it out of the ball park and pulled off another amazing festival which is truly going from strength to strength.

We captured a few photos of the event which can be found in the gallery below and would like to say a huge thanks to all who attended as you truly make it magical.

Whilst there we heard rumours that next years venue may well be a little bigger…
