Salford City Council has been crowned the ‘Best Place to Work’ according to the Local Government Chronicle (LGC).
On Tuesday 5 November, Salford City Council picked up the prestigious award at the LGC Workforce Awards 2024 in Liverpool.
Beating other nominees from across the country, the award was scooped following an application process that featured an application, newly produced video and presentation to the judging panel.
The award-winning presentation “This is our Salford!” beautifully encapsulated the pride, passion and personality that the people who work for the council have in their DNA which drives them to serve and support our communities, delivering a wide variety of services to the residents of Salford.
The presentation was delivered by Sam Betts, Director of HR/OD and Sam Barry, a colleague from the Refuse Collection team. The judging panel were particularly impressed with how the staff embrace the people centred culture so naturally, and promoting the values that are needed to represent the rich, diverse culture that Salford has.
Colleagues from across the council, elected members, officers and trade unions have worked together to shape the organisation’s culture, which now makes it the ‘Best Place to Work’.
Salford City Council employees are encouraged to develop, both professionally and personally, to meet their aspirations and the needs of a dynamic, modern city, supported by compassionate leadership to encourage and empower individuals.
The winning presentation “This is our Salford!” highlighted council staff who explained what working for Salford City Council means to them, in a vox-style film. The passion, enthusiasm and energy that they expressed was perhaps one of the main attributes that helped the council to win the award.
Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett said: “What a fantastic achievement! Well done to everyone who was involved in putting the presentation together, and a big thank you to the stars of the show, our colleagues. As the public landscape fluctuates, socially and financially, the council will equip and encourage colleagues to develop themselves to meet the challenges, and opportunities that they will encounter. Our commitment to build a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive Salford for everyone is the driving force behind everything that our colleagues do for our communities, with passion and with pride.”
Tom Stannard, Chief Executive of Salford City Council said: “To win this award and be recognised, nationally, as an authority where people want to work, is a great achievement, so well done to everyone. We recognised that by developing a structure that promotes innovative thinking, encourages individuals to develop and expand their skills, we can cultivate a work environment that is safe and supportive for everyone.”
