Salford City Lionesses have announced the appointment of Connor Wild as their new manager ahead of the 2024-25 season. At just 26 years old, Wild brings a wealth of experience from his recent role as Assistant Manager at third-tier AFC Fylde Women and his previous stint with Manchester City.
Connor Wild, who has made significant strides early in his coaching career, expressed his enthusiasm about taking on the managerial role at Salford City Lionesses:
“The women’s game is really interesting in terms of the development of the leagues, the progression since the EUROs and the World Cup as well. There’s a real progression in the women’s game at the moment,” he stated. “Salford has very high ambitions with the things they’ve got in place, and they match my ambitions.”
The new manager has set his sights high for the upcoming season, aiming for promotion as the primary goal:
“We’re both in agreement that the target this season is to get promotion, and we’ll do everything that we can to try and achieve that,” Wild declared. He emphasized the importance of creating a competitive and winning culture within the team.
“We need to create a competitive, winning culture and to do that we have to be at a high intensity in training, creating competitive scenarios. It’s going to be a tough league, there are lots of teams that are going to compete and we have to be at our very best to achieve promotion.”
Wild’s passion for football and winning is a driving force behind his decision to join Salford City Lionesses, he continued:
“My big passion is football, but alongside that my biggest passion is winning and this is why I wanted this head coach role, particularly here at Salford because I will do everything to try and win and achieve great things together, and that’s started now.”
Salford City Lionesses are dedicated to the growth of women’s football and providing opportunities for women and girls in the area. Starting from the 2024-25 season, the club will offer travel, training, and playing kits for the players.
