Salford resident Ellis Jones, an apprentice with Cunard Construction, has been named Apprentice of the Year – Northwest by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), recognising his outstanding talent, commitment, and contribution to the construction industry.

Ellis is currently in the first year of a Level 4 Quantity Surveying apprenticeship, delivered part-time, and has already completed a number of safety and diversity training programs. Starting with Cunard Construction as a work experience placement, he progressed to the role of Commercial Assistant—taking on responsibilities that go well beyond those of a typical apprentice. From managing client documentation to attending site visits, Ellis has consistently demonstrated initiative, professionalism and the ability to earn the trust of both colleagues and clients.

Ellis has embraced every opportunity presented to him since beginning his apprenticeship, demonstrating exceptional dedication and professionalism from the outset. His calm demeanour, proactive mindset and willingness to take on responsibilities beyond his role have quickly earned the trust of his team and the confidence of clients. With clear potential and a strong foundation, Ellis is establishing himself as a stand-out young professional in the industry.

Chris Carr, National President of the Federation of Master Builders, commented:
“We are incredibly proud of Ellis Jones for being named Apprentice of the Year in the North at the FMB Awards. This achievement is a testament to Ellis’s hard work, dedication, and passion for the trade. His commitment to learning and consistently delivering high-quality work truly sets him apart. Ellis’s success is an inspiration to our entire team, and we look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the future. Congratulations, Ellis, on this well-deserved recognition!”

Peter Backhouse, Director at Cunard Construction, added:
“Ellis has shown maturity beyond his years and a genuine enthusiasm for the industry. His commitment to learning and willingness to take on responsibility has made him a valued member of every team he’s worked with. We’re incredibly proud to see him receive this recognition and excited to watch him grow even further with us.”

Reflecting on his achievement, Ellis Jones said:
“I’m really proud to have won this award. It means a lot to be recognised for the work I’ve put in and the support I’ve had from Cunard Construction. I’ve learned so much already and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills and build a career in the industry.” Cunard Construction, which operates across the Northwest, continues to invest in apprenticeships and future talent as part of its long-term commitment to delivering exceptional work across both public and private sector projects.
