A total of 15 parliamentary candidates are standing in the General Election for Salford’s two constituencies – Salford and Worsley and Eccles.
Candidates had a deadline of 4pm today to submit their nomination papers. They are as follows in alphabetical order:

Salford residents can help shape the country’s future by choosing who they want to represent them nationally as their Member of Parliament (MP). To have their say, residents must be on the electoral register and, if voting in a polling station, have a valid form of Voter ID.
(Acting) Returning Officer Tom Stannard said:
“Salford candidates have now been announced for the General Election and I encourage all residents to vote. The voter registration deadline is Tuesday 18 June. It’s easy to register and can now be completed online. It only takes five minutes and your national insurance number. Find out more at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote and make sure you have your say.
“If you’ve just turned 18, are new to Salford or recently moved to a new home, you’ll need to check that you’re registered to vote in the General Election. Those who haven’t registered in time cannot vote in the General Election. People can register to vote at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote so make sure you have your say.
“Those who prefer to stay home can apply for a postal vote at www.salford.gov.uk/postalvote before the deadline of Wednesday 19 June. Alternatively you can appoint a trusted person to vote on your behalf. This is called a proxy vote which you can apply for via www.salford.gov.uk/proxyvote until 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.
“This is the first General Election where voter identification is a legal requirement to vote at a polling station. Valid photographic ID includes a passport, driving licence, and some types of bus pass or proof of age card. It can be out of date providing that the picture still looks like you. It must be the original version and not a photocopy.
“Voters without acceptable ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) until Wednesday 26 June. Located across the city at Eccles, Pendleton, Walkden, Swinton and Broughton, they have free internet and are open late every weekday.
“MPs are elected to represent residents and their local area at Westminster so are your voice on a national platform. Your vote really matters.”
This will be the first General Election that constituency boundary changes across the country come into effect following a national review in 2023. The Boundary Commission for England reviewed the parliamentary constituency boundaries to ensure the number of electors in each area was more equal and represented local communities as best as possible.
Salford continues with two constituencies of its own (outlined above) which are primarily made up of Salford wards. Four Salford City Council wards are now included in two other parliamentary constituencies in Bury and Bolton. Kersal and Broughton Park is now under the jurisdiction of Bury South constituency whilst Little Hulton, Walkden North and Walkden South are included in the Bolton South and Walkden constituency. These boundary changes only relate to parliamentary constituencies, the area an MP is elected to represent in Parliament. They don’t affect local authority boundaries so services such as bin collections remain the same and residents in these four wards continue to pay council tax to Salford City Council. The polls open at 7am on Thursday 4 July and close at 10pm. The verification and count will begin at 10pm on Thursday 4 July. The estimated declaration time for both constituencies is approximately between 4am and 6am on Friday 5 July.
