Two air cadet leaders have been officially honoured in Salford.

The Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Heather Fletcher, presented Flight Lieutenant Julie Ward and Flight Officer Rebecca Waters with Mayor’s Citizens Awards in a special ceremony on Wednesday 23 July.

Julie and Rebecca work at Albion High School and lead the air cadet force at the school. They were honoured thanks to their commitment to helping young people over the past 11 years.

The pair drive all over the country in their spare time to collect uniforms from other units and donate them discreetly to children who are unable to buy their own.

Schools have reported how children’s grades have improved when they have joined the air cadets.

The Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Heather Fletcher, said: “The special ceremony was our way of saying thank you to these to incredible people.

“Julie and Rebecca work tirelessly to improve the lives of young people in our city. We’re extremely lucky to have them, it is people like them that make our communities much stronger.”
