A fun evening organised by the Salford RLFC Supporters Trust, literally ‘raced’ away, raising around £1,500 to support the Player Pathway at the Salford Red Devils Super League Club.
Runners and riders were featured in eight sponsored races on the big screen at Irlam Catholic Club with more than 80 reds fans hedging their bets, picking their favourite horse names, numbers, or silks colours with £1 fun tote betting.
The real winners on the night were the Elite Academy at the Salford Red Devils with funds going to support their development, including providing training kit and gym membership for potential rugby league stars of the future.
Last year in 2024 the Supporters Trust raised and donated over £19,000 supporting the Salford Red Devils that included funding vital training, physio and rehab equipment, a drone and camera, breathing exercise training and much more.
A Supporters Trust spokesperson said, “On behalf of the Trust we would like to thank race night organiser and Board member Matty Smith and all the race sponsors, Anthony from AMW Stairlifts who also sponsors the Salford Reds Wheelchair rugby team; The PHT Massive; Matt Smith; Dennis ‘Denbo’ Riley; Phil and Fiona; Pete Brady; Liz Wright; and Tommy Lever MBE, for their very generous support.
Without the Salford fans turning out we would not have been able to raise such a fantastic amount on the night, so a big thank you to everyone who attended, Saundy who sponsored the venue for the evening and the Catholic Club in Irlam for being fantastic hosts.
Nights like this and other donations and support are helping us develop our home-grown players of the future. Together we are helping make young people’s dreams come true.”
Academy Coach Danny Barton, Academy Player Sam Hill and Scholarship Player Marley Harrop came along to support the evening with both young players learning their trade with the Eccles Rugby League based club, the Salford Roosters.
Danny Barton added, “The Supporter Trust do a fantastic job in raising funds and supporting the club and the young players as they continue their Rugby League journey. Without that support we would struggle to give these lads the training and chances they deserve. A massive thank you to everyone that supported the Race Night.”
Salford Red Devils Trust member Jack Youd, a Salford City Councilor for North Walkden and Deputy Mayor, was delighted to be able to support a fantastic evening. He spoke briefly about the current ongoing issues at the Club.
The Salford Red Devils Supporters Trust have further fundraising events in the pipeline for later in the year including at the Tiger Moth in Irlam and the Blue Bell in Monton. Not just Rugby League fans of all clubs and levels, but ALL Sports fans and the people of Salford should try and support these events, if just one of these young players make the grade, then you can all say, “I helped that player to make it!”
A fans forum is also being organised as soon as possible and will be held in the near future.
