Nigel Farage has received a significant boost with a recent YouGov poll, placing his Reform UK party at 19%, one point ahead of the Conservatives, who are currently at 18%.
Reform UK has gained 2 points according to the YouGov poll conducted for The Times newspaper.
Labour, led by Sir Keir Starmer, remains well ahead at 37%, reflecting the party’s strong and consistent lead in the polls amid increasing dissatisfaction with the Conservative government. Labour’s commanding position highlights general public support for their policies and leadership, positioning them as the front-runners for the next general election.
The poll was taken after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced widespread criticism for leaving the 80th anniversary D-Day commemorations in France early last Thursday. Sunak’s decision to cut short his attendance at the solemn event honoring the sacrifices of Allied forces during World War II sparked backlash from veterans and political opponents alike, who viewed his actions as disrespectful and ill-timed.
Nigel Farage quickly seized the opportunity, declaring that Reform UK is now the real opposition to Labour.
The Liberal Democrats, under leader Ed Davey, are currently at 14%, according to the poll.
