General Election 2024 – Polling booths close across Salford as verification & counting gets underway

The opportunity to vote in the General Election 2024 has now ended with polling stations closed and the ballot boxes now being securely transferred to the Salford Community Stadium where volunteers and council officials have been working all day to facilitate the verification and count. The results are expected between 4am and 5am in the early morning of Friday 5th July with results from the rest of the country coming in over night.

Early exit polls across the country are predicting a huge win for The Labour Party and dramatic losses for The Conservatives nationally, as well we know though, pollsters can and have gotten the mood of the country wrong in the past, although it looks like nothing will stop Sir Keir Starmer from crossing the doorstep of 10 Downing Street tomorrow morning.

Due to changes to constituency layouts by the Boundary Commision, four of Salford City Councils wards are now included in two other parliamentary constituencies:

  • Kersal and Broughton Park are now under the jurisdiction of Bury South constituency
  • Little Hulton, Walkden North and Walkden South are under the jurisdiction of the Bolton South and Walkden constituency. 

The verification, count and declaration for these constituencies is facilitated by Bury and Bolton councils respectively.
