Labour candidate Josh Brooks has been duly elected as Councillor for the Walkden South ward in what turned out to be a good night for Salford Labour after a hard fought campaign.
Which means that the conservatives have lost the seat previously held by Iain Lindley who stepped down from Council earlier this year. This means that the ward now has 3 Labour councillors.
The election had previously been postponed due to the unfortunate death of the Conservative candidate George Andrew Darlington, who sadly passed away shortly before the May election.
The results this evening are as follows.
The political makeup of the council is now:
Barbera Keeley the MP for Worsley & Eccles South, was quick to congratulate John on Twitter upon his win
As too was Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett who said:
"Fantastic news!! Great to welcome Joshua Brooks to the Labour Team on Salford’s City Council, following the by-election in Walkden South. Thanks to everyone who voted for Josh, he’ll be a great councillor in Walkden along with @CllrCritchley @lauraee_ #TeamLabour"
