  • ECCLES BY ELECTION RESULTS ANNOUNCED WITH MIKE MCCUSKER SECURING ECCLES FOR LABOUR

    Mike McCusker, Labour party candidate, has been declared the winner in the 2018 Eccles by-election.

     

    Labour hold onto Eccles with a comfortable first place for its candidate as Mike McCusker romped home with an easy win.

    The turnout for the election, held Thursday September 26, was 20.92 per cent with 1966 votes cast.

    The votes were cast as follows:

    Alker, Helen,  Green Party 123

    Darlington, Andrew, Conservative Party 474

    Dean, Caroline Stephanie, Women’s Equality Party 39

    Hallam, Keith, UK Independence party (UKIP) 100

    McCusker, Mike, Labour Party 1071

    Overend, Jake   Liberal Democrats 156

    Three ballot papers were rejected.

    The by-election was called to find a replacement for Councillor Peter Wheeler who resigned earlier this year. 

    The political makeup of the council remains: 

            Labour 49

            Conservative 10

            Liberal Democrats 0

            Independent 1
