Update: A section 60 order is now in place across the area and police have stepped down their response but are keeping a watchful eye on things over the coming hours.

Social media reports indicate that protestor’s are planning to gather at Salford precinct from 1pm today (August 6), raising concerns about possible public disorder in the area.

In response, shops in the precinct are reportedly pulling shutters down and closing early, with staff being sent home to ensure their safety.

Police say that they are aware of posts on social media indicating potential for a protest to quickly develop.

A police source has said that they have stepped up plans for an order to be put in place to give them additional powers to manage and disperse any protestor’s that may gather.

There has been widespread unrest across the country following the horrific killing of three young girls in Southport, with police and protestors already involved in violent scuffles in Manchester and Bolton, during which a number of officers were injured and 28 people were arrested.

People living within the area are hoping that the protests don’t descend into the carnage and chaos when riots came to the same area in 2011. Shoppers are being advised to avoid the area so as not to be caught up in any potential disturbance.
