This morning, the Worsley Neighbourhood team, assisted by the dog section, Challenger team, and the RSPCA, executed a warrant at a local farm suspected of breeding and training XL Bully dogs.
The warrant was issued based on local intelligence suggesting that banned breeds were being kept and trained to fight at the location.
Officers were accompanied by a trained vet who examined each animal for evidence of cruelty, fighting, and being an illegal breed. As a result, two suspected illegal dogs were seized, and several others were taken away for medical treatment.
One male was arrested at the scene for animal cruelty offenses and is currently being questioned by specialist officers in custody.
Inspector Steve Corless emphasized the importance of monitoring the XL Bully breed closely following recent legislative changes:
“We have acted swiftly on concerns from the community. A couple have been seized as being suspected of being a banned breed, and specialist officers will assess if this is the case.”
During the raid, evidence of equipment used to encourage dogs to attack was also found and is currently under investigation.
The police urge anyone with concerns about any dog suspected of being an XL Bully and its owner’s responsibility to call 101 for non-emergency issues or 999 if the situation poses an immediate risk to the public.
