An HMP Forest Bank prisoner is on the run after absconding from police custody during an escorted medical visit to Salford Royal Hospital on Monday afternoon.
Greater Manchester Police have made use of the forces helicopter as well as knocking on doors around the area in a bid to locate and recapture him.
As yet police have not released any details as to the prisoners name or the sentence he was serving.
It’s also unclear how he was able to escape as prisoners are usually shackled to an accompanying officer during such visits. The prisoner was wearing a distinctive grey prison tracksuit and is said to have still been wearing handcuffs at the time of his escape.
A spokesperson for the Catergory B, Sodexo operated HMP Forest Bank, said:
“We are aware of an incident involving an HMP Forest Bank prisoner who was under escort at a local hospital.
“We are working closely with Greater Manchester Police and cannot comment further at this time.”
