Plans for 71 new apartments in building with karaoke and games room

Plans have been shared for up to 71 homes in a Salford building, which could have karaoke and a games room.

Based on the corner of Eccles New Road and South Langworthy Road, the proposal by Beech Holdings is close to Langworthy Metrolink stop and a 20-minute walk from Salford Quays.

It includes plans for a ten-storey ‘co-living’ apartment complex, which lowers down to four storeys further along Eccles New Road.

Bosses behind the scheme say the co-living experience will offer residents homes as well as shared facilities such as a co-working area and study space, a gym, karaoke room, library, and games room.

The design also includes resident lounges and a yoga studio.

Each studio apartment will have a bedroom along with a shower room, workspace, storage, and kitchenette facilities.

Shared kitchens are planned in each of the upper floors of the building, with each floor having a laundry room, with a total of 18 washers and 18 dryers spread across the building.

The fourth floor of the building could get a ‘large external roof terrace’ with an area for growing produce, and a BBQ. Plans include a total of five car parking spaces and one disability space, but space for 72 bikes.

The proposal does not include any affordable housing. A previous application for up to 148 homes on the same site was rejected by Salford City Council.

City planners said this was because of concerns over the size of each individual apartment and the total amount of shared space, as well as the scale of the development ‘failing to respect the character of the local area.’

The re-submitted planning application ‘seeks to address the reasons for refusal.’

A report stated that, if approved, the development will ‘act as a gateway from Eccles New Road towards Media City’ and help to meet local housing need.
