Ordsall Labour Councillors Brendan Keville, Tanya Burch and Ben Grogan have called for Salford Council to reject a planning application to demolish shops at the Regent Retail Park to build the tallest building outside of London.

The councillors for Ordsall are supporting Save Regent Retail Park Campaign group who have recently submitted a community objection report detailing the detrimental impact the development plans will have on the local community.

Developers Henley Investment Management (HIM) have announced plans to demolish the existing shops to build 3,300 apartments, a new park and retail shops.

Local Labour Councillor and member of the campaign group, Brendan Keville has said “The proposed development is neither suitable or sustainable for the area. The £1 billion development does not provide affordable housing or support investment for the additional schools, healthcare and transport infrastructure needed. This is not the sustainable development Ordsall needs. We need a mix of affordable and family housing as well as services and infrastructure to create sustainable communities in Salford.”

Local Labour councillors have been working with concerned residents over the past two years since plans were first announced. More recently Labour councillors met with residents at a well-attended public meeting in July 2024. Following this meeting, Labour Councillors have supported and worked with residents to establish a new group called Save Regent Retail Park Campaign. Since then, local Labour councillors have been working with the campaign group and supporting residents to submit objections and gather residents’ feedback to inform a community objection report which has now been submitted to Salford Council.
