NOTHING SPOOKY ABOUT ‘JAM BUTTY’ CAMP FUNDRAISER!

It may have been Halloween Night but there was certainly nothing ‘spooky’ about a fantastic night at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, raising much needed funds for the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp.

Affectionately known as the ‘Jam Butty’ Camp, the Prestatyn home of the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp in North Wales, has for generations provided an opportunity for countless Salford young people to experience and have a fun holiday break from their norm, in safe and secure surroundings by the sea.

For many it may well have been the only holiday they had experienced when growing up and the chance to escape life in inner city Salford if only for a week.

Times have changed but the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp continues to be a popular resource for Salford children and other boroughs across Greater Manchester, be that from schools, community groups and junior sports clubs to enjoy a short break, that is now run by a charitable trust, working hard to keep the camp open for Salford kids from all backgrounds.

Salford Children’s Holiday Camp was established in Prestatyn, North Wales in 1926. Since then, it has provided a holiday home for over 80,000 Salford Children from all walks of life. Salford schools and groups always have priority booking up until October of the previous seasonal year, but any dates left after this period can be booked by schools and groups from outside of Salford.

Stilt walkers, contortionists and dancers from the circus mingled with Halloween revellers as the ball got into full swing with a drink’s reception follow by a lovely meal and some great entertainment all to raise funds for the ‘Jam Butty’ Camp. That costs more than £80,000 each year just to keep the doors open, making a real difference to the lives of young people.

Organiser Nick Abbott said, “Our Halloween ball 2025 is on the 31st of October at The Lowry Hotel was a scarily good success! We had special guest Peter Hook who was interviewed by Mike Sweeney who are both proud Salfordian’s and supporters of the camp. We also had the Absolute Diva’s singing live and a freaky horror show act that also did a walkabout on the night. A massive thank you to everyone who came along and helped us raise a magnificent £36,000 for children to have a holiday by the sea.”

John Morris and his Irlam based company GUN (General Utilities Northwest) supported the night with family and friends enjoying a great evening whilst supporting a fantastic Salford charity. He added, “A brilliant night that raised funds for the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and well done to the organisers and those that took part.”
