Plans have been revealed for a ‘gateway building’ in Eccles which could bring 124 new apartments to the town centre.
Developer CERT has submitted an application for the work to Salford council, based on a former car dealership off Albert Street and Peel Street.
Planning reports say the goal is to build ‘a simple, sophisticated, contemporary brick apartment scheme befitting a sophisticated European city.’
It offers close links to the M602 and public transport options such as Metrolink and Eccles train station nearby.
The land sits close to Eccles Shopping Centre where a massive regeneration project is taking place as part of a wider revamp of the town centre.
Demolition work of some parts of the shopping centre started earlier this year, and Salford council recently confirmed the appointment of Muse as development partners for the project.
Design plans for outside the proposed new apartment building include a shared community garden within an internal courtyard, along with seating and wildlife-friendly planting.
Road and pavement improvements are also planned, with two raised Zebra crossings and dropped kerbs on Albert Street and Peel Street, and widened pavements around the site.
A design statement from the developer says: ‘The proposed residential development for Eccles town centre will create a new accommodation offering for the local residents.
‘The scheme brings higher density housing in a scale that bridges the neighbouring smaller scale residential areas with the town centre, with an active ground floor to complement the town centre uses, along with a cycle store and facilities to feed into Greater Manchester’s vision for active travel routes and active communities.’
A target date for the plans to be decided by Salford council has been set for October 21 this year.
