A man has been charged with two counts of arson in connection with a fire that broke out earlier this week on Franklin Street in Eccles.

Paul Johnson, born 11 June 1961, of no fixed address, is accused of starting the blaze on 21 April 2025. Following an investigation led by Salford CID, Johnson was formally charged and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court today.

The fire caused significant damage to the property, though no injuries have been reported. Police have not yet confirmed whether the incident is being treated as targeted or random.

Greater Manchester Police have urged anyone with further information regarding the incident to come forward via 101 as investigations continue.
