The needles have been clicking and the crochet hooks turning as an army of knitters from Irlam and Cadishead have been busy creating some stunning baby clothes and blankets to support a maternity hospital in Ukraine.
The project supported by the Rotary Club of Irlam, and the Inner Wheel Club 2000 has collected literally thousands of handmade baby items, beautiful blankets, baby clothes, nappies and other maternity related items to support the Spearhead Foundation and their work with a Maternity Hospital in war torn Ukraine.
Bill McLaughlin who has helped to co-ordinate the appeal is pictured with Mike from the Spearhead Foundation and just some of the donated items made and collected around Irlam and Cadishead said:
“Wow, what a fantastic effort from local knitting and crafting Clubs and individuals that have made some stunning items to support mums and their new-born babies in Ukraine. The people of Irlam and Cadishead never cease to amaze me with their generosity and support for those that need help.
On behalf of the Spearhead Foundation, Irlam Rotary Club and the Inner Wheel Club 2000, I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all the groups including at Lady James Hall, St. Paul’s Shawl Ministry, Irlam Library, Inner Wheel and others along with all the individuals that have knitted, crochet or donated items that have supported the baby appeal, well done to you all.”
The appeal was further enhanced with the purchase of thousands of nappies following a grant from the Rotary Club of Irlam and several individual club members that have also added to the total with personal donations.
Amazing support from an amazing and very generous community. Well done!
