The Rotary Club of Irlam have been ‘putting the boot in’ – not to mention trainers, shoes and other footwear all for a very good cause!
The Club held a three-week shoe collection around the Irlam, Cadishead and Rixton area with more than 20 collection points established at local schools, businesses, libraries and other premises.
The various footwear items were all then collected in, sorted, bagged and labelled by Rotary volunteers including Club President Tony Beckett, Gill McLaughlin, Jane Williams, Peter Blay and Bill McLaughlin, as part of a SHOEAID Appeal to provide much needed footwear for those in need in the UK and around the World.
AND the response was amazing! with 428 pairs of reusable good condition footwear including some brand new still in the box items, that will now go on to support those that need them.
Community Chair Bill McLaughlin from the Irlam Rotary Club who coordinated the local project said:
“A fantastic effort and one we are very proud to have been involved with. The generosity of our local community never ceases to amaze me and to collect so many pairs of shoes, boots and trainers of all sizes and styles was just fantastic!
Irlam Rotary Club will be again launching their annual ‘Wrap Up Salford’ Winter Coats Appeal later in the year and we hope that the local community will again show what a generous, kind and thoughtful bunch they are.”
Look out for the Winter Coats Collection points around Irlam and Cadishead later in the year and please again give generously.
