Fire crews from Moss Side, Withington, Stretford, Sale, Whitehill, Salford and Broughton stations were called after smoke was seen billowing from the top of a high-rise building on Adelphi Street this afternoon.

Residents at Adelphi Wharf were evacuated whilst the rooftop blaze was brought under control and extinguished.

The cause of the fire has not been given as yet and there have been no reports of any injuries.

Roads were temporarily cordoned off but have now since been reopened.

Residents have been allowed back into their homes.

A spokesperson for GMFRS said:

“At around 12.30pm today (Wednesday 26 June), seven fire engines from Moss Side, Withington, Stretford, Sale, Whitehill, Salford and Broughton stations were called to reports of a fire on the roof of a high-rise residential building on Adelphi Street, Salford.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. GMFRS crews remain in attendance, working alongside emergency services colleagues to make the area safe.”
